History
The Raiders Weston Social Golfers Club was formed in 1975. Over the past few years, our membership has been strong, averaging 50 members each year.
Membership
Raiders Weston Club members are welcome to join the Raiders Weston Social Golfers (RWSG). Membership to the RWSG is $20 for the calendar year. Social Golfers are encouraged to be active members of the Raiders Weston Club. Junior members can join for $10.
Fund Raising
The Golf Club raises money during the year to subsidise games and social club uniforms, away trips and functions. This is done mainly by conducting raffles at the Raiders Weston Club, however the Social Secretary may coordinate other fund raisers throughout the year. To be eligible for discounted away trips, you need to help with at least 2 raffles during the year.
The Raiders Weston Club also generously provides financial support to the Golf Club. So, we encourage all social Gofers to get involved with the Club and the regular promotions.
Regular Home Games
Home games are normally played fortnightly on Sunday mornings. Name lists are posted on the Social Club notice board two weeks before each game. You must put your name on the list by Wednesday before the game. Home games cost $40 for Social Golf Club members.
Junior members play at the cost of the junior green fees for the course to a capped maximum of $40 per game. Non-members can play at a cost of $40 (or the cost of the green fees – whichever is greater) but are not eligible for grade prizes or the Mug.
For all local games players are responsible for booking their own motorised cart – please let the Captain know ahead of the game who you’re sharing with. For away games we normally book carts for everyone to save room on the bus (ie. don’t bring buggies).
Make sure you arrive 30 minutes before tee off; if you can’t make it, please contact the Captain or Vice-Captain – the phone numbers are on your game card. If you have registered for a game but fail to play, you may be required to cover the cost of green fees if they are charged to the Club.
Presentations are held back at the Raiders Weston Club immediately following each home game. Prizes are awarded for each of the grade winners and runners-up, closest to the pin, nearest in two, putts and longest drives. The ‘Mug’ is also drawn. You must be a member to be eligible for grade prizes and the ‘Mug’ who has played on the day.
Away Trips
Three trips away are planned each year, taking advantage of Canberra’s only long weekends. Recent destinations include Narooma, Bowral, Merimbula, and a club favourite: Gundagai.
Trips are heavily subsidised, making them affordable for everyone.
Partners of members (playing or not) are welcome to attend. To attend at the discounted rate, you must be a Social Golf Club member, have played at least 30% of home games and have assisted (or intend to assist) in the fund-raising Golfers raffles.
Name sheets for away trips are posted on the notice board well in advance, giving you plenty of time to make full payment by the due date. Pre-payment must be made one month before the trip so we can confirm the bookings.
Put your drinking boots on! We’re alcoholics with a golfing problem on away trips.
Captain VS President’s Day
The year’s final game is the Captain vs. President’s Day competition, played as our last game in December at a favourite local course. The club is split into groups of two, and each team plays for either the President or Captain.
The annual event is a 2-person Ambrose. Followed by lunch back at the club and the official trophy ceremony.
Some say it’s the most important game of the year.
